MPSC has cancelled the Drug Inspector recruitment (Group-B) for the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration and will conduct the exam again. The cancellation followed a police inquiry into complaints about the 22 March 2026 screening exam.
If you were an eligible applicant earlier, you don’t need to apply again or pay another fee. The date of the fresh exam hasn’t been announced.
| Particular | Details |
|---|---|
| Recruiting authority | Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) |
| Department | Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration |
| Post | Drug Inspector, Group-B |
| Advertisement No. | 116/2025 |
| Vacancies reported | 154 |
| Cancellation announced | 25 August 2026 |
| Fresh exam | To be conducted, date not announced |
| New application for earlier eligible applicants | Not required |
| New exam fee for earlier eligible applicants | None |
The fresh exam is expected to cover the same advertisement and the same 154 posts. The final number and conditions will be in MPSC’s next notice.
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 29 July 2025 | MPSC published Advertisement No. 116/2025 |
| 22 March 2026 | Screening exam held at centres across Maharashtra’s six divisional headquarters. Around 44,500 candidates took part |
| 12 June 2026 | Result declared, and 506 candidates qualified for the interview |
| 22 July 2026 | After the interviews, MPSC published a provisional merit list of 488 candidates |
| 22 to 26 July 2026 | MPSC received complaints from candidates and elected representatives about the screening exam |
| After the complaints | MPSC referred the matter to the police for verification |
| 25 August 2026 | MPSC cancelled the recruitment and announced a re-examination |
Why was it cancelled? According to news reports, the preliminary inquiry found prima facie evidence that at least one candidate had received the questions before the exam. MPSC said it acted to protect the confidentiality, integrity and fairness of its exams and to keep candidates’ trust.
This is a preliminary finding, not a final verdict. The earlier exam and the interviews that followed won’t be used to fill these posts.
| Your situation | What it means |
|---|---|
| You applied earlier and were eligible | No new application and no new fee. Keep preparing and watch for the official notice |
| You were on the merit list or attended the interview | That result no longer counts, and you’ll need to take the fresh screening exam |
| You didn’t apply earlier | Don’t assume you can apply now. Wait to see whether MPSC opens new applications |
| You saw an exam date on Telegram, WhatsApp or YouTube | Ignore it unless it appears on mpsc.gov.in |
Until the date is announced, keep your earlier application details and admit card safe, and keep studying in case notice is short. Be wary of anyone who offers a “fresh application” or a guaranteed seat for a fee. Nobody can offer that until MPSC announces an official process.
In the original recruitment, B.Pharm candidates were eligible, and Pharm.D eligibility was also addressed during the process. The pay scale was S-15, which is ₹41,800 to ₹1,32,300 plus applicable government allowances.
Both could change, so check these points in the fresh notice when it’s released:
| What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Educational qualification and required subjects | Confirms whether your degree is accepted |
| Age limit | May differ from the original advertisement |
| Reservation rules and category certificates | Seats and documents must match the new notice |
| Experience, if any | Some posts specify it |
| Pay scale and service conditions | Confirm they’re unchanged |
It’s easy to assume this is a pharmacy job, but it isn’t. A Drug Inspector’s work is about inspection, compliance and enforcement, and not dispensing medicines.
| Part of the job | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Inspections | Visiting pharmaceutical establishments |
| Compliance checks | Checking that rules are followed |
| Records | Examining documents and registers |
| Sampling | Handling regulatory samples and the related procedure |
| Reporting and follow-up | Preparing inspection reports and chasing up compliance issues |
| Enforcement | Supporting action under drug laws |
The day-to-day work depends on the posting. It suits pharmacy graduates who like combining pharmaceutical knowledge with law and fieldwork. MPSC hasn’t announced the syllabus or pattern for the fresh exam, so be wary of anyone claiming to know it. What you can do now is build the base.
Start with pharmaceutical legislation, because the whole job is about enforcing it. The Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and its Rules, 1945 are central. The Pharmacy Act, 1948 and the NDPS Act, 1985 are also worth covering. After that, keep pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry and analysis, pharmacognosy and microbiology fresh, and follow Maharashtra-related current affairs. This ordering is our suggestion, not an official weightage.
Solve objective questions regularly and go through your mistakes after each practice test. Once MPSC publishes the notice, adjust your plan to the official syllabus.
Keep these accessible in case MPSC asks for formalities: your previous application details, admit card, degree certificates and marksheets, category certificate (if applicable), a valid ID, and any other documents listed in the original recruitment.
